01 Start with a single tone
Voice 01 is set to 440 Hz, the common A4 reference pitch. Press its Start button to play only that voice. Enable Audio prepares the audio engine without starting any stopped voices.
Find a frequency. Layer a few. Explore the space between them. Your browser is a little sound lab.
Start with a low listening volume.
All voices start stopped. Press Start on a voice to hear it.
Background audio depends on your mobile browser and operating system.

Every voice is independent. Start one, build a layer, or use Start All for the whole mix. Zero Hz is silent.
A few notes before you play
A free, browser-based tone generator for exploring waveforms, tuning by ear and experimenting with sound.
Voice 01 is set to 440 Hz, the common A4 reference pitch. Press its Start button to play only that voice. Enable Audio prepares the audio engine without starting any stopped voices.
Choose sine, triangle, square, saw or pulse. Adjust frequency, phase, volume and stereo pan independently. For pulse waves, change the duty cycle with Pulse %.
Add up to 64 voices. Use logarithmic frequency sliders for broad sweeps or linear controls for even Hz steps. Watch the main oscilloscope, individual mini scopes and stereo XY vectorscope as you play.
Open MIDI controller, enable MIDI and select an input. Play notes with velocity, octave transposition, pitch bend and sustain. Web MIDI needs a compatible browser and HTTPS.
You can enter values from −32,000 to +32,000 Hz. Actual output is limited to below half your audio device’s sample rate (the Nyquist limit), so a 48 kHz device cannot reproduce a 32 kHz tone. Speakers and headphones impose their own limits. Negative values invert the waveform’s polarity; 0 Hz is silent.
The generator requests playback audio behavior where your browser supports it, and offers system media controls where available. It keeps the audio engine active when the page is hidden and pauses only the visualizations. Your mobile browser or operating system may still interrupt or suspend playback; continuous background audio is not guaranteed.
Yes, in browsers that support Web MIDI. Connect your controller, expand the MIDI panel and choose Enable MIDI. Allow the browser’s MIDI permission if asked, then select your input. MIDI device access requires a secure HTTPS connection (or localhost for development).
Begin with a low device volume, then bring the master volume up gradually. Adding voices can make the combined signal much louder and may cause clipping. Keep volume moderate, take breaks and remember that an inaudible tone is not a reason to turn the volume all the way up.
This tone generator synthesizes audio on your device. It does not request microphone access, record audio or upload your tones.
